South Carolina, Georgia continue to battle on the recruiting trail

A handful of South Carolina fans are convinced that Georgia coach Kirby Smart recruits some players just because Will Muschamp is after them.
Though it’s yet to be confirmed, it’s probably safe to assume that there are some Georgia folks who believe Muschamp goes after prospects just because Smart likes them.
Well, there’s something to each school of thought, regardless of which team you’re rooting for on Saturday in Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga.
Muschamp and Smart have similar backgrounds as defensive-minded coaches, so they recruit the same types of players, particularly for that side of the ball. And since they both come from the Nick Saban school of evaluating talent, Muschamp and Smart probably look for the same types of people, too.
In 2017, Smart’s first recruiting cycle as head coach at Georgia, the Dawgs and Gamecocks battled for a handful of prospects.
Wyatt actually committed to the Gamecocks in the summer before his senior season, but he eventually flipped to the Dawgs. Georgia survived a late push for South Carolina. At one point, it looked like he was about to re-commit to Muschamp. Wyatt is currently enrolled at Hutchinson Community College, but remains committed to Georgia.
The war continues to be waged in 2018.
Vann, Enagbare and Fenwick were heavily pursued by Georgia before committing to South Carolina. It became clear early on that Vann was a Gamecocks lean, but Enagbare’s decision was a bit of a surprise.
Several 2018 prospects remain up for grabs, including 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall, 4-star cornerback Jaycee Horn and 4-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge, all three of whom will be in Athens on Saturday.
The South Carolina-Georgia recruiting battles have spilled over into 2019, though neither of the Gamecocks’ two commitments in that class have an offer from the in-state Dawgs.
