South Carolina in-home visit with Dylan Wonnum final update

February 01, 2018

South Carolina offensive coordinator and receivers coach Bryan McClendon was the final coach to get a chance to make a pitch to Tucker, Ga., offensive lineman Dylan Wonnum on Wednesday night. The meeting at the home included Wonnum and his parents. Earlier Wednesday, Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt met with Wonnum and Auburn’s Gus Malzahn was in for a school visit Monday.

The visit with McClendon lasted around two hours according to Wonnum’s mother. Consuela Wonnum said it was a typical conversation, similar to what her son had with the other coaches.

“Most of the meetings are the same. They go over your official visit and tell you how your kid can fit in the program. Plus, DJ (Wonnum) is already there. Pretty much the same,” Mrs. Wonnum said.

The plan now is for her son to think over his decision and announce it Saturday on social media. No time has been set for that.

“Just where he feels like he fits in better and pretty much his major,” Mrs. Wonnum said. He plans to major in forensic anthropology. “All the schools have his major but Tennessee is very heavy in that field. We’ll just go from there.”

With a son, who is a budding star defensive end, already at USC, the Wonnums already have a level of comfort with the Gamecocks. As does their younger son. But that may or may not be a tipping point in USC’s favor.

“That will be a bonus for them, but Dylan has always been the one that wanted to kind of do things on his own. That’s a factor, too,” his mom said.
