South Carolina in strong position to land Wyatt Campbell

Wyatt Campbell grew up rooting for Clemson, but there’s a distinct possibility the 3-star tackle ends up playing for South Carolina.
On Friday, while in Columbia for the first OL/DL Camp, Campbell picked up an offer from the Gamecocks.
“It means a lot, because that gives me a chance to play at the best level of college football and to be able to stay home and have that home support and all the home fans that I know that are around, so it’s a good feeling,” Campbell said.
The 6-foot-7, 280-pound prospect from Lugoff-Elgin (S.C.) High School lists several Power 5 offers, several of which are out of the ACC: Duke, Louisville, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
On Saturday, he visited Virginia Tech. Clemson will host him for a camp workout later this week.
A commitment will be announced within the next month.
“I want to make it pretty soon, but then again, I want to sit down and talk with my family, make sure it’s the right spot, just being 100 percent positive,” Campbell said. “Just know that I know that’s the right spot.”
Before camp on Friday, Campbell visited three or four times, so he’s familiar with what’s going on under the new regime. The Gamecocks appear to be in strong position, even though he’s rooted for the Tigers.
Now, with a workout under coach Eric Wolford, Campbell has a better sense of what life would be like as an offensive lineman at South Carolina.
“I love him. He’s a very, very energetic coach,” Campbell said. “I mean, he’s going to tell you straightforward. It might not be what you want to hear, but he’ll tell you how it is. I like that about him.
“He’s not going to blow smoke up your butt. He’s going to tell you if you did something wrong and he’s going to make sure that you know it. He’s that kind of coach and that’s what I like.”
According to the 247Sports composite, Campbell is ranked as the No. 97 offensive tackle in the Class of 2018.
