South Carolina is still in the game for four-star defensive back Mark Fields (Cornelius, N.C./Hough) more than originally thought. It’s always difficult to get a player who decommitted back into the fold but he’s still very open to the Gamecocks, as evidenced by keeping his official visit to Columbia scheduled for January 23. He’s also scheduled to visit Clemson on January 16 and the Tigers are going to be the biggest challenge.
Fields isn’t only telling the Gamecocks’ coaching staff what it wants to hear. He’s telling the people close to him as well that South Carolina is still in it. He’s waiting to see how things shake out with the coaching staff. He keeps pointing to USC’s “uncertainty” in interviews and when there is some certainty in what the staff will look like next year, we’ll get a much better feel for where South Carolina stands.
