South Carolina landed its third offensive line commitment in the 2018 class on Sunday when 4-star offensive tackle Maxwell Iyama 6'5" 299lbs announced his commitment.

According to Rivals, Iyama is ranked as the No. 27 offensive tackle in 2018.

Iyama, who’s from Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., joins 3-star guard LaMarius Benson (Covington, Ga.) and center Hank Manos (Chapin, S.C.) in the Gamecocks 2018 class. The first commitment to the class was 3-star wide receiver Darius Rush (Greeleyville, S.C.).

South Carolina hosted Iyama for a visit last weekend. The 6-foot-5, 299-pound believes it’s where he needs to be.

“I feel like they have the most opportunity,” Iyama said. “I like (offensive line) coach (Eric Wolford). I feel like I can trust him. I feel like he’s going to push to make me be the best player on and off the field that I can be, and maybe to the NFL.”

The direction of the program under second-year coach Will Muschamp leads Iyama to believe good things are in store.

“I feel like they’re getting better, especially with the energy they had when I visited,” Iyama said. “I feel like they’re getting some good players. … Based on the spring game, they did pretty good and I feel like it’s going to be better than it has in the past.”
