South Carolina LB Bryson Allen-Williams: ‘(Clemson) disrespected us’
Nov. 27, 2016
The disrespect that began during pre-game continued after kickoff in South Carolina’s 56-7 loss to Clemson on Saturday night.
Gamecocks linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams told reporters after the game that a Clemson player directed a racial slur at one of his teammates.
“They called one of our defensive linemen … they used the n-word, one of the offensive linemen. I don’t know what number,” Allen-Williams said. “Like I said, we’ve got to go out there and get our get-back. Next year, when we play them at Williams-Brice, we’ll have this game circled.”
Allen-Williams also said that degree of trash talk is “definitely not common.”
“They did a lot of nasty stuff,” he said. “That’s just not us. Coach (Will) Muschamp always talks to us about being a classy program and that’s one thing that we’re going to do.”
The disrespect, Allen-Williams said, began more than an hour before kickoff at Memorial Stadium.
“They were warming up on our side of the 50. You don’t do that against teams,” Allen-Williams said. “The score was what it was.”
He added, “They disrespected us. Like I said, we’ll wait 365 days to get this team back. They did a lot of disrespectful things on the field.”
Wide receiver Terry Googer and defensive tackle Dante Sawyer added to Allen-Williams’ post-game thoughts on Twitter.
Now, the Gamecocks will have to put it all behind them, even the words that were above and beyond trash talk.
“It’s irrelevant now,” Allen-Williams said. “The score was what it was. Like I said, we’ve just got to go out there and win the next one.”
