South Carolina offer ‘would mean a lot’ for fast-rising local DE

May 24, 2017

Defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat of Irmo has been a relative unknown in the recruiting world, but with his MVP performance in Sunday’s EPT Football Skills Showcase at Ridge View High, the word is now out about him.

Missouri was quickly on the phone with him with an offer. Jeffcoat (6-3, 222) also has offers from East Carolina, Colorado State, Appalachian State and Middle Tennessee State. Others are sure to follow.

South Carolina outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson was by Irmo High on Tuesday.

“They want me to come to a camp, and if I do good at the camp, they are going to offer me,” Jeffcoat said. “He’s saying I’m talented. When I first went to their junior day, I was small, around 200 pounds. But when he saw me, he was like, ‘Whoa.’ He likes the weight. That’s what was holding him back from offering me.”

Jeffcoat said he grew up a Gamecock fan, though he’s only been to one game at Williams-Brice Stadium. He’d love the opportunity for more trips there, but this time as a player.

“It would mean a lot to me,” he said. “It’s not that far and I’d be close to my family. I feel I would fit perfectly in the program. I really like what Will Muschamp is doing with the Gamecocks. I like the way he recruits.”

Jeffcoat plans to camp at USC in June. He has visited East Carolina and wants to visit Missouri soon. He also wants to see Notre Dame. Right now he feels like Missouri is recruiting him the hardest.

He’s looking at a late summer decision.
