New South Carolina offensive line coach Eric Wolford will have a fifth incoming offensive lineman to work with in 2017. Offensive tackle Jordon Carty committed to the Gamecocks on signing day Wednesday, the latest in a class with many offensive tackle prospects.

Carty, who is out of South Broward High School in Hollywood, Fla., chose South Carolina over offers from Mississippi State and Oregon State.

The Gamecocks hosted the 6-foot-7, 265-pound prospect for an official visit this past weekend, making a strong enough final impression to land his commitment on Wednesday. They offered him in July, after Carty worked out at the Will Muschamp Football Camp with several of his teammates and made a strong impression with his performance.

“(My team) did a camp while I went on a little visit around the school,” Carty said after the camp. “I (saw) the sports facility it was very nice. I was amazed a little, as well. Also, (saw) the player dorms, which were very nice and also the weight room.”

The Gamecocks return four starters on the offensive line in 2017, but sought to add more depth to the group through this year’s recruiting cycle. Carty is the fifth 3-star offensive lineman in the class, joining Summie Carlay (Laurens, S.C.), Dennis Daley (Columbia, S.C.), Eric Douglas (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jordan Rhodes (Fairburn, Ga.). Carlay already is on campus as an early enrollee.

Daley, who’s transferring from the junior college level, will have three years to play two at South Carolina. He’s a potential fit at left tackle, along with Carty and Rhodes, the two most recent commitments on the offensive line.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Carty is listed as the No. 80 offensive tackle in the 2017 class. Carty also had offers from North Carolina, NC State, West Virginia, Mississippi State and Kentucky.
