South Carolina receiver Randrecous Davis is medically retiring from football. Davis announced his decision early Monday morning in an Instagram post. The Atlanta product has battled injuries throughout his time in Columbia and had been away from the team since August.

“For all who was wondering whatever happen to ‘Dreak,’ I’m still here and doing well but I’ve decided to walk away from football due to my extensive number of injuries,” Davis wrote in his post. “During my career here at U of South Carolina, I’ve endured 8 surgeries yet remaining here. I never complained about anything just took it to the chin and always kept it pushing.

Davis was rated a three-star recruit and the No. 418 player in the 2016 class, per the 247Sports Composite. He chose South Carolina after de-committing from Georgia in January 2016 but had rarely been healthy enough to make a major impact for the Gamecocks. He missed the 2019 season with a high-ankle sprain, while he was forced out of spring practices in 2020 due to a stress fracture in his lower leg. Davis also opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns.
