Gamecocks official visit weekend
South Carolina is set to host another round of official visitors this weekend. With the news of Robert Beal’s decision to postpone his official visit to next weekend, the guest list for this weekend is set for two: wide receiver commitment Chad Terrell (Dallas, Ga.) and junior college cornerback Mike Hughes (New Bern, N.C.).
Hughes spent last season at Garden City Community College after being suspended by Tar Heels coaches in October of 2015 for “a violation of team rules.”
The Sun Journal, his hometown newspaper, wrote: “Hughes was charged with a count of misdemeanor assault, inflicting serious injury after an incident that happened at a fraternity house in Chapel Hill on Oct. 4.”
The paper also wrote: “Hughes agreed to do 100 hours of community services and restitutions, if (he does) that, the charges will be dismissed.”
By February of 2016, after the end of his freshman season, Hughes was no longer on the team at North Carolina for “personal” reasons.
Visits elsewhere
South Carolina safety commitment Zay Brown (Athens, Ga.) will take an official visit to Arkansas State this weekend. Next weekend, the 3-star prospect is scheduled to return to South Carolina.
South Carolina cornerback commitment Jamyest Williams will take his official visit to Georgia this weekend. The 4-star player from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) is set to visit South Carolina the following weekend, before making his final decision on signing day.
Former South Carolina commitment Devonte Wyatt, a defensive tackle from Towers High School (Decatur, Ga.), is also set to be in Athens this weekend. South Carolina hosted him a week ago. Florida will get the last shot next week.
Former Alabama commitment Aaron Sterling, a defensive end out of Tucker (Ga.) High School, will be at Georgia, too. Sterling is set to see South Carolina next weekend.
In-state prospects to see South Carolina
Rock Hill-South Pointe kicker B.T. Potter (2018) will be on campus at South Carolina this weekend.
Gaffney wide receiver Dennis Smith (2018) is scheduled to visit next weekend.
Duncan-Byrnes linebacker Khalid Jones (2018) has tentatively planned to see Florida, Florida State and Ole Miss.
Roebuck-Dorman wide receiver Jacoby Pinckney (2019) visited Virginia Tech last Sunday and he plans to visit South Carolina in February.
