South Carolina recruiting: Decision updates for Javon Kinlaw and Jordon Carty; updating two top 2018 targets

Jan. 31, 2017

Kinlaw’s timing

Look for Javon Kinlaw to release his official commitment status on Tuesday night, around the time you settle down for dinner

The answer will be released on Twitter, but Kinlaw made it pretty apparent after his official visit to South Carolina that the Gamecocks would be the choice.

Set for 9 a.m.

Three-star offensive tackle Jordon Carty (Hollywood, Fla.) will make his announcement at 9 a.m. on National Signing Day.

“He enjoyed himself. It was like a family, and he liked that,” said South Broward High School defensive coordinator Junior Rosegreen, who spoke with Phil Kornblut.

Junior Day recap

Earlier this month, South Carolina hosted 3-star tight end Jacob Warren on the first junior day event of 2017.

“It was great. I enjoyed everybody there. They were really friendly, like always. Every visit I’ve been on, they’ve made me feel at home, so I really enjoyed it,” Warren said.

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect from Farragut Academy in Knoxville, Tenn., has visited South Carolina three other times: twice in the fall for games and again in December for bowl practice.

“I just enjoy going down there. … I really enjoy the environment. I just enjoy spending time down there,” Warren said.

South Carolina, Tennessee and Oklahoma State have offered Warren, who is listed as the No. 26-ranked tight end in the class of 2018.

The way the Gamecocks utilize their tight ends is “really appealing” to him.

“You can go out and run routes, catch passes. I like the system. We run a similar system where I play, at Farragut,” Warren said. “I think I can fit into that system. Coach (Pat) Washington was talking about how he could use me, so I really like how they use their tight ends.

“A lot of teams say they’re going to use their tight ends, but South Carolina actually does a good job of actually including them in the plays.”

New offer for Hollifield

Four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield, who is emerging as a priority for Muschamp in 2018, scooped up another offer on Monday.

LSU has some work to do to crack Hollifield’s top 3 of South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. The Shelby (N.C.) High School prospect said previously that he would sign with one of those three schools.
