South Carolina recruiting notebook: Looking ahead to this month’s visitors

July 08, 2016

Sunday is the last day on the 2015-16 NCAA recruiting calendar.

It’s also the last day of the current dead period. On Monday, when the calendar flips back to the quiet period, recruits will once again be permitted to take college visits.

South Carolina will certainly have its doors open, but the majority of this month’s visitors will head to Columbia between July 18-23. The Will Muschamp Football Camp will be back in session during the business week, and Saturday’s SpursUp Cookout will wrap up the festivities.

The camp’s guest list includes 2-star outside linebacker T.J. Minnifee, who the Gamecocks offered last month. He will be joined by fellow 2017 prospect Ben Hutch, a 3-star defensive tackle from Hillsboro High School (Nashville, Tenn.).

South Carolina has yet to offer Hutch, the No. 57 ranked defensive tackle his class. He recentlyreleased a top seven that included Texas A&M, Tennessee, Missouri and Mississippi State.

The cookout guest list has already started to take shape. In addition to a number of the Gamecocks’ 2017 commitments, several offered prospects have also been confirmed by SEC Country as guests.

At least two of the state’s top prospects have made arrangements to visit for the cookout: 2018 4-star athlete Dekereon Joyner and 2019 wide receiver Jacoby Pinckney.

Joyner was on campus in June for one of the 7-on-7 tournaments. Pinckney was first offered by the Gamecocks after his work at last month’s camp.

Also scheduled to visit at the end of the week is 4-star inside linebacker Dax Hollifield, the No. 2 prospect at the position in theCclass of 2018. Hollifield told SEC Country that he’ll visit that Friday or Saturday.

South Carolina could also receive a return visit from 4-star Hamsah Nasirildeen (Concord, N.C.), who’s classified as an outside linebacker but is being recruited as a safety. There are no immediate South Carolina visit plans for 4-star cornerback A.J. Terrell (Atlanta).
