South Carolina recruiting: Shrine Bowl updates on T.J. Moore and Damani Staley

ROEBUCK, S.C. — SEC Country returned to Dorman High School on Wednesday morning to gather more South Carolina recruiting intel on Damani Staley and T.J. Moore.

The 4-star offensive tackle from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C. arrived to the Shrine Bowl after an official visit to N.C. State.
“The whole coaching staff, they’re just great. Great people,” Moore said. “N.C. State, I’ve got a lot of teammates down there … I know if I go down there, I’ll have a great family, because I’ll be with people I’ve been with for three, four years.
“They built me up to who I am now, because I watched them grow. I can go to college to watch them grow some more, so that would just help me.”
South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida are scheduled to host him on consecutive weekends in January.
The former commitment shared thoughts about the Gamecocks earlier this week.
On Wednesday, he went into more detail about all of the SEC schools that are still receiving consideration.
South Carolina: “You only live once, so I just want to enjoy (the official), have fun. I know a lot of people down there still.”
Tennessee: “Me and coach (Larry) Scott, coach (Don) Mahoney, we had dinner, sat down. We went out to eat. Me and coach (Butch) Jones, we talk a lot, but I haven’t talked to him this week, actually. I was surprised. They got a big commit, Trey Smith, so, hopefully they still can get me, or if I can still commit. I’m not saying I’m committing there … I’ve just built a great relationship with Tennessee. I know a lot about them.”
Florida: “I actually got the offer. I talked to him, he said, ‘You have a scholarship here.’ Really, just waiting for my SAT scores to come back. I’m going to let them know what it is, if everything is good. Me and coach (Mike) Summers have a great relationship. He came down to my school. We talked a little bit. He talked to my father. He talked to me and told me everything, how they want me d own there, so I’m just waiting on my SAT score to come back. it should come back either this week or next week.”
Future pass-rush specialist?
Staley, a 3-star outside linebacker from Ridge View High School in Columbia, S.C., tallied 27 sacks during his senior season.
“I saw that I progressed a lot better than I did last season,” Staley said. “I accomplished a lot of things that I set for myself that season. I felt pretty good about it.”
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound South Carolina commitment hopes to carry this year’s success into his first season at the college level.
“I always try to do better than I did (the previous season), so that’s what I’m going to try to do when I go to USC,” he said. “I’m going to try to work a couple of other moves, try to do anything I can to be better.”
Staley is the son of former South Carolina running back Duce Staley.

Eric Douglas knows a little bit about everyone the South Carolina coaches are recruiting to join him in the 2017 signing class.
Word of the commitments by junior college defensive backs Kaleb Chalmers andKeisean Nixon broke while Douglas was practicing on Wednesday morning.
“I know they were recruiting them pretty hard. They got them. That’s awesome. That will help them even more on the outside, with Hamsah (Nasirildeen), Jamyest (Williams),” Douglas said.
