South Carolina recruits competing in state track meet

May 12, 2017

Several Gamecock football recruits will be in Columbia this weekend to compete in the South Carolina state high school track meet.

Competition begins Friday night at Spring Valley High School, home of 4-star 2018 linebacker Channing Tindall.

Tindall qualified for the 5A meet in the shot put and discus. Another 2018 target, Conway offensive lineman Raiqwon O’Neal, is set to throw the shot put.

The meet starts at 5 p.m.

It will also feature Hillcrest’s 4×100-meter relay team, which includes 2019 wide receiver Quendarius Jefferson, who was offered by South Carolina at the SpursUp recruiting event a couple of weeks ago.

On Saturday afternoon, 2018 wide receiver commitment Darius Rush will defend his state titles he won as a sophomore, the high-jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and triple-jump (47 feet, 1 inch).

He’ll also compete in the long-jump and run a leg on the C.E. Murray 4×100-meter relay team.

Brad Johnson, a 2017 defensive end/outside linebacker signee from Pendleton, will throw the discus and shot put in the 3A portion of the meet on Saturday morning. His 153-foot toss in the Upper State meet is the best 3A discus throw of the season.

Later in the afternoon on Saturday, during the 2A meet, Saluda’s Kelijiha Brown will compete for a state championship in the shot put. The 3-star defensive tackle committed to Wake Forest over South Carolina earlier this year.
