South Carolina to add walk-on kicker Brandon Chiazza
Feb. 26, 2017
South Carolina is reportedly set to add kicker Brandon Chiazza (Malvern, Pa.) as a walk-on later this year.
Phil Kornblut confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon, a day after Chiazza, who attends Malvern Prep School, was on campus at South Carolina for a visit.
According to kohlskicking.com, Chiazza “has some tools to become effective. He showed flashes of a powerful leg, but needs to continue to become more consistent to continue to move up in the rankings. His leg speed gives him a chance to do some very positive things as a specialist.”
South Carolina was looking to add another walk-on kicker to the roster after 4-year starter Elliott Fry exhausted his eligibility. Heading into spring practice, redshirt freshman Alex Woznick is believed to be the leading candidate for the place-kicking job.
