South Florida LB didn’t see Gamecocks offer coming
SPORTSTALK / March 10, 2022LB Bobby Washington (6-3 205) of Miami is a heavily offered prospect in South Florida. His offers include one from USC defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clayton White that was delivered January 26th. That offer, Washington said, really came out of the blue, and he’s not sure if White plans to pursue him strongly.
“They have been recruiting me hard, but not all that much,” Washington said. “But I have them as one of my top (schools). I talked to Coach White. He hasn’t called me that much, but I like the school. It’s a very good school. They want you to get your academics first and then focus on football.”
Last season Washington recorded 135 tackles and four sacks. White and his other recruiters, he said, are impressed with his desire to hit people.
“He said I would fit in the program, and he loved the way I just hit, and I love the game,” Washington said. “And I play physical. They see how I love to play the sport of football. They see that I have a drive and see a mentality that I like to hit, and they need that on the field.”
Washington has not visited USC, but he said he would like to. He has visited Florida State, UCF and FAU. His other offers include Ole Miss, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, West Virginia, Wake Forest, UAB, Marshall, Illinois, Texas, Louisville, Oklahoma, Boston College, USF, NC State and Auburn.
