Spurrier says he has figured out that Tennessee has lost to three undefeated teams (Florida, Mississippi State and Alabama) .... he and Todd draw a blank on who the fourth loss is. After a senior moment, Spurrier remembers it is Georgia and points out all those teams only have one loss.
Obviously the last game at Florida we fumbled so many times early and didn't give ourselves a chance. We have a chance for a good season though and he thinks his guys know that.
Spurrier says the flu bug was not the problem at Florida, he points out Florida only had 183 yards last week but his team had turnovers and they can't play like that. They have to play smart and take the care of the ball, something they have not done the past few weeks. They have to get back to playing the game the way it is supposed to be played.
Spurrier points out Tennessee is number eight on the all time list of victories in college football and they are a national team. They are right there with Michigan, Nebraska, Southern Cal, etc and we could beat them three in a row and that would be something neat for us to do that.
The Palmetto Health injury report.....Marcus Lattimore feels good and is healthy. That is all Spurrier speaks of and Todd says they will touch on the other players later.
Darius Rucker will sing the national anthem on Saturday according to Todd Ellis.
Spurrier says looking back at 2005 we beat Tennessee and Florida, we were 1-25 in the years leading up to that game and we beat both those team that year.
First call is about the play calling or Connor Shaw or something I think he was heading for some point about the tight ends..... Spurrier cuts him off and says he has a good point. They have not gotten a lot of first downs . Spurrier says that Connor has struggled and been in a rut, he needs to read coverage and pick out a receiver. Shaw has had a good week of practice, he practices better than any quarterback they have had in eight years. They have to get his confidences up and have him play as he practices.
Ok, back out to the phone lines, John in Sumter is up.....his question has to do with Shaq Roland, first he butters Spurrier up by saying he has complete faith in Spurrier and they are going to turn this thing around....John says that Roland is not living up to the Mr. Football award (must have read Whittle's article)............Spurrier says that Roland has an offensive mentality. What he needs to do is learn how to play the game, he played a little against Florida and had a couple balls go off his hands. Todd chimes in now saying he should have caught the deep out route. Spurrier says he needs to learn how to block down field and play full speed all the time. He is coming around and will be ok, but he has some progress to make.
Evan on from Wild Wings, he was wondering...he had a question about if you go to a small private school and want to go to a division one school how to get your name out there how do you get noticed. Spurrier says they have camps in the summer, junior days...just show up. There are these camps all over the south, find out when they are and go. That would be a good way to showcase your talents.
Victor Hampton gets the John Deere run of the game, they replay Todd screaming as Victor ran down the line.
Spurrier going on about covering kick offs and say we may just have to accept the fact that we are not good at covering kick offs. Said they tried D.J. Swearinger last week and he got blocked.
Darius Rucker joining the show now. Darius excited to come home, says he has not played Columbia as a country artist. Spurrier jumping in and congratulating Darius for becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Spurrier says he flips back and forth everyday when he is working out between ESPN and the Country Music Channel. (There is a nugget for you)
Todd repeats that Darius Rucker will sing the national anthem this Saturday for the Tennessee game.
Quick segment with Darius. Will be back in a minute.
They get the weather report and when they come back Spurrier is wanting them to ask what the wind situation will be. Todd says there might be gusts up to 20mph on Saturday.
Heading to the final segment.
Spurrier was asked about the schedule and who creates it. He points out Georgia was supposed to play Alabama but they decided to drop that. He goes on to say that they got Mississippi but he thinks the Rebels will give the Bulldogs a good game when they play.
Beth calls in on behalf of I think the parents of the players and asks that Spurrier remind the students to get their early and stay for the entire game and be loud. Spurrier says he has heard that all the students have not picked up their tickets yet. He tells the students they have the rest of the day to party after the game so no need to leave early.
Spurrier closes the show by saying that hopefully they learned if you want to play winning football you have to take care of the football. You can't give the other team cheap touchdowns. The other teams have sort of out played us and out coached us. We need to get back playing football and at Williams Brice we have been much better. We need to get the season heading back towards like we had last year.
Back to the injury report, again, Marcus is 100 percent, we are going to give him the ball. We can't give it to him every play so we need to hit some passes.
Kelcy Quarles is out and Mike Matulis got hurt again.
Everybody else must be healthy outside of T.J. Gurley because Spurrier does not discuss anybody else.
