Spurrier interview on 107.5

Behold! A rare moment in time where Heath Cline actually talks about Gamecock football.

LOL, I noticed that. Not really a Heath fan but he beats national sports talk. The HBC defending Jr. was very telling and it ticked me off. Jr. was not a terrible recruiter and brought in a lot of very good WRs but he screwed the pooch and a lot of in state talent that wanted to come to Columbia. Mike Williams just to name one wanted to come to Columbia and wasnt given the time of day by Jr. or his staff. Cant defend that.

Yeah I've mentioned my dislike for his show on CT. I recognize that I am in the minority, but I just simply do not understand the appeal. I remember one time listening to his show, and it was like a day before kickoff, or maybe even the day of kickoff, and he was droning on about some shit Baylor was doing. Then to top it off, he completely flip-flopped on Muschamp. Back when rumors were flying around that Muschamp was coming to be our DC and HCIW, Heath was all over the air telling everyone that we didn't want that. He said Muschamp failed at UF and that we didn't need a coach who couldn't win at a school like Florida. (Pretty much all the same shit Muschamp haters say.)

Then the day comes when Muschamp is named to be our coach, and there's Heath fielding phone call after phone call, and rebuking them with his support for Muschamp. "What happened at Florida was an anomaly. You can't judge him on that. etc. etc."

Heath might be a knowledgeable sports talk host, and he obviously loves basketball, but he is hot garbage when it comes to covering Gamecock football.

Totally agree, he is like most UF grads, they could really care less about football unless they are winning big. To me Flawda grads and fans are clueless sometimes. Most of them cant tell you who their starting QB is.....Heath at times does some good stuff and has some good insight or editorials but to me he doesnt cover Gamecock football like he should, especially for a station that is the flagship station of the Gamecocks.

I didn't listen to the interview, but that would tick me off too.

There is absolutely no denying that Spurrier and staff got complacent in recruiting sometime around 2012.  It just took time to show itself.

Thanks coach for the 3-straight 11-win seasons.  You should have retired after the Miami win, and you know it.

Believe it or not Shep, I have to defend The HBC on that. He all but begged the BOD and Coach Tanner to let him hit the door and they talked him into staying. He told them he had had enough but was asked to take some time during the off season and think it over. The HBC ended up agreeing to stay because he didnt want to let CRT down.

Fair enough. But looking at the state of our recruiting at that point, I would say that Spurrier had checked out 2 years before the episode you describe above.

I think it all started when Brad Lawing left, and slowly unraveled from there.

Nevertheless, I am grateful for the amazing run we had from 2010-2012!
