Spurrier is a media magnet.

I can't believe all the attention Spurrier is getting for his offhand remark about Bama being able to beat an NFL team. If any of you heard him say it, you know he was just joking around. But the national pundits and sportswriters have debated it to the nth degree. I guess they don't have much to write or talk about.

Same with the comments about Abo last week. Wall to wall coverage, articles, talk shows and editorials from people that admitted they did not hear him say it or know the full context.

It's almost like the old E. F. Hutton commercial. When Spurrier speaks, people listen. I guess that's better than having a coach that no one pays any attention to. Some people have to rant and rave to be heard.

My girl friend and I had a talk about great coaches. I used Spurrier and Saban from the ones active now. Men who draw good players to them and then the players follow their leadership to perform amazing accomplishments. These men are successful beyond measure because of what they consist of. It's something in their hearts & souls that makes them the best at what they do. They attract media for sure, and good players and assistants and they win whereever they go. We are fortunate to have such a man at USC. We are witnessing the development of history that will be discussed for decades if not centuries in sports. Spurrier is more than a media magnet; he is a leader and a winner. His persona reminds me of the character displayed in Bear Bryant's book, Nothing But a Winner. The players that recognize that they are in the hands of a history making coach and take advantage of it accomplish things they could never do otherwise.
