It will be #5 versus #6 Saturday when USC takes on Georgia in Columbia. The new polls this week have Georgia ranked fifth and USC sixth. Both teams are coming off wins Saturday, the Bulldogs at home over Tennessee and the Gamecocks on the road over Kentucky.
This game will have all the markings of a showdown with huge national implications as well. The ESPN Gameday crew will set up at the USC Horseshoe and ESPN will televise the game with kickoff at 7:00 PM.
USC coach Steve Spurrier reviewed yesterday’s win over Kentucky and previewed the Georgia showdown on his weekly conference call Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t think we had any serious injuries last night. We should be pretty close to full speed. Hopefully Mike Matulis will be able to play this week. It was a game where a lot of stuff went bad. Kentucky completely out played us. We actually gave up a punt return early, gave up a kick return. It was a poor special teams showing but we tightened things up in the second half. Defensively they made some yards on us the first half and then we obviously shut them down in the second half. Offense, we had two drives, got one touchdown and left it on the one yard line again, same as last week. Second half we didn’t have those bad plays. Proud of the way the guys game back and regrouped and kept on playing. Good win on the road.”
