South Carolina began spring practice on Tuesday afternoon at the Proving Grounds. Head coach Steve Spurrier addressed the media following the first workout, which was in shorts and helmets.
Opening comments
Sort of a typical first day of spring ball. A lot of young guys running around, hustling. Effort was very good. Throwing and catching, at times looked good and at times, not so good. The defense looked pretty sharp. It was a good first day and hopefully we’ll get a little bit better as the week progresses and have a good, excellent spring game. It was a typical first day.
Our guys had an excellent winter conditioning. Joe Connolly, our strength coach and his staff, did a super job of getting our guys in position to give the effort. I’m really impressed with our times, our lifts, and our strength and conditioning of our team right now. We’re excited about that, and getting through spring ball here with no one getting hurt.
