For those hoping to see a continuation of some past verbal jabbing between Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier leading up to Saturday's rivalry game, you may end up disappointed.

“Whenever I'm around him our relationship has always been very cordial,” Swinney said Sunday. “I've got a lot of respect for him as a football coach and the success he's had. But it's not about me and coach Spurrier, it's about the guys playing in the game and that's where we need to keep the focus.”

Spurrier also played nice on Sunday as he acknowledged trying to spice things up in the past.

“I like Dabo and think he's a wonderful guy and excellent coach,” Spurrier said. “He's done a super job up there at Clemson. He and I, and I think our wives, get along very well. Every now and then just to keep the rivalry going I think he and I need to say a little something to stir up emotions here and there, but it will probably be all about football this week.”
