A day after getting pounded at Florida Steve Spurrier conceded his team isn’t playing with a lot of confidence and cadidly added they aren’t a good team now either.
“It’s embarrassing to lose that way, Spurrier said Sunday on his conference call. “Good teams don’t fumble the way we did yesterday. So we’re just not a real good team right now. We were pretty good two weeks ago and somehow or another we got to get back to that confidence level.”
Spurrier spent a good chunk of his time Sunday lambasting the play of his special teams.
“Special teams were horrible,” Spurrier said. “That’s the best way to describe it…We didn’t give ourselves a chance”

- A few other notes of interest from the Head Ball Coach:
- Spurrier said “in all likelihood” Connor Shaw will remain the starter at quarterback this week. He said Shaw and Dylan Thompson didn’t have a lot of opportunities against Florida.
- Freshman safety TJ Gurley has a torn ligmament in his knee that will require season ending knee surgery. Spurrier called Gurley a “promising young player” and looks forward to getting him back next year.
- Marcus Lattimore will return to his starting role at running back this week. Lattimore was limited in practice last week because of a hip injury and Spurrier used him sparingly against the Gators. “When the score got out of hand we just felt like it would be stupid to get him hurt,” Spurrier said.
- Spurrier said he would be pulling for Florida against Georgia this weekend. When a reporter told him that in order to stay alive mathematically in the SEC East race the Bulldogs need to beat Florida. Spurrier asked who Florida had to play after Georgia and was told it was Missouri. “I don’t see all that happening” was the HBC’s response.
