SpursUp Surveillance: Friday visitors from Rock Hill, the impact of T.J. Moore’s commitmentAugust 02, 2016
In-state recruit enjoys lunch with Will MuschampIn May, Justin Reese transferred to South Pointe High School in Rock Hill. Reese played his sophomore season at Lower Richland High School in Hopkins, which is just a few minutes down the road from Williams-Brice Stadium.
On Friday, Reese was at South Carolina with 4-star WR Derion Kendrick and their coach at South Pointe, Strait Herron.
“It was great. It was a good experience, a great experience to be around the coaches and see what the facilities are like, and a college atmosphere,” Reese said.
He enjoyed the personal interaction with Muschamp.
“Coach Muschamp was being real with me, how he really feels about me and the decision that I make,” Reese said. “We had lunch together, so we talked about a lot. I talked to the strength coach (Jeff Dillman). We talked about a lot.”
Reese added, “It was real nice. I visited the indoor facility when it was first being built. I went back and they really put some work in … the dorm rooms, I really liked the stuff like that,”
N.C. State, Tennessee and Coastal Carolina also hosted him for visits earlier this summer.
More on MooreThe South Carolina staff flexed its recruiting muscles Monday night when T.J. Moore surprised a lot of people with his commitment to the Gamecocks.
Ranked as the No. 250 overall prospect in the class of 2017, Shi Smith is the only prospect committed to South Carolina who’s ranked ahead of Moore. Smith is also the only other 4-star in the Gamecocks’ haul.
South Carolina hasn’t signed an offensive lineman with a higher national ranking than Moore since Donell Stanley in 2014.
Numbers aside, Moore is a big get for the Gamecocks. He could play inside or outside at the next level. For Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C., Moore mostly plays right tackle, opposite Eric Douglas, who’s been committed to South Carolina since April.
Landing Moore gives Muschamp a reason to get excited. Same goes for offensive line coach Shawn Elliott.
Douglas was just as excited. He hinted that good news was on the way about 20 minutes before the announcement was made on Periscope.
Moore told SEC Country earlier this year about Douglas’ tireless recruiting efforts. Douglas thumped his chest on Monday, and for good reason, too.

With four offensive linemen committed, South Carolina is probably finished at the position for 2017. The Gamecocks now have the No. 21 ranked class in the country.
Official offers list offering some insight? To go along with the new Twitter recruiting rules, college coaches were allowed to officially extend offers to 2017 prospects Monday. Several South Carolina commitments tweeted about their written offers.
Safety target Natyron Culpepper, a 3-star from Miami who’s nearing a decision, said South Carolina officially offered him on Monday.
It’s worth noting that 2017 WR Justin Marshall did not receive an official offer from South Carolina, according to an interview with Phil Kornblut. The 3-star prospect from Covington, Ga. did receive official offers from Georgia, Ole Miss and Louisville.
Could that be a good sign for South Carolina and it’s pursuit of 4-star prospect OrTre Smith? Perhaps. The 2017 prospect from Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, S.C. continues to mull South Carolina and Clemson.
Gamecocks coaches embrace new social media rulesRunning back coach Bobby Bentley and linebacker coach Coleman Hutzler were active Monday,
retweeting a handful of prospects, as was Muschamp. Here’s a collection of who Muschamp retweeted.
