SpursUp Surveillance: Jamyest Williams talks official visits, Under Armour game
Dec. 30, 2016
Four-star cornerback commitment Jamyest Williams has yet to finalize his plans for January, but one thing is certain.
The top overall recruit in the Gamecocks’ 2017 class knows he’ll take an official visit to South Carolina.
“Guaranteed,” he told SEC Country’s Ben Wolk. “It’s still a debate whether I’ll take one to Georgia or not.”
For Williams, who’s out of Grayson High School in Loganville,Ga., it’s a matter of chatting that over with his father.
“Me and my dad, we’re going to sit down sometime soon and talk about this whole thing before I sit down and sign these papers,” Williams said.
For the meantime, Williams will continue preparing for the Under Armour All-America Game.
“It’s a huge blessing. It’s not every day that you get to be coached by a legend,” Williams said of his work with Deion Sanders. “I have to soak in every moment. I listen to that man every chance I get … It’s exciting. It’s a blessing. It lets me know that he recognizes my work. I’m just going to keep working hard every time I come out here.”
Williams detailed a few other specifics about his recruitment:
On the pressure to stay in-state and go to UGA…
“They’re getting a lot of the in-state guys and a few guys out of state. So it has kind of an impact a little bit.”
Describing his commitment…
“Oh yeah, I’m 100 percent.”
Why South Carolina…
“Just my opportunity, my future. This is a business. It’s business all the way around, you know. I felt like South Carolina put me in the best position right away to succeed on and off the field. And then the relationship I had with (coach Will) Muschamp and T-Rob (Travaris Robinson).”
Who he’s recruiting for the Gamecocks…
“Robert Beal and Xavier McKinney. And Tony Gray … I’m always on him. He knows … We’ve got a chance, a very great chance. Probably 50-65 percent.”
Competing at the Under Armour game…
“It’s great. It’s great because I’m going against all the top guys in the nation. I get to see where I’m actually at. I get to show off my skills against all the greats, all the evaluators, the people who are always doubting me. I get to show them my skills. I get to show them why I’m the best in the nation.”
