SpursUp Surveillance: More on OrTre Smith, son of former Gamecocks coach goes viralAugust 25, 2016

Details on the OrTre Smith announcementOn Wednesday night, Phil Kornblut shared details on the upcoming decision for 2017 WR OrTre Smith, who’s scheduled to announce on his birthday, Sept. 11.

Kornblut reported that Smith’s will announce at 2 or 3 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, S.C. It was not specified whether the event would be at Wando High School.

In the week’s first SpursUp Surveillance, SEC Country wrote about Smith’s communication with Clemson. Sources in Tigertown indicated that Smith hadn’t communicated his plans to the staff there, though they were certainly aware of what many think will happen next month.

South Carolina and Clemson continue to be the primary contenders for Smith, who’s also considering Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.

Skinny: As was written Monday, smart money remains on South Carolina to land the highest-ranked in-state prospect for 2017.

Shi Smith on OrTreShi Smith

Last week, Matt Connolly from The State newspaper stopped by Union County (S.C.) High School to check out 4-star WR Shi Smith, who committed to the Gamecocks in June.

OrTre Smith, a 4-start prospect, was among the topics they discussed.

“I would love to see OrTre join me,” he said. “It would be unstoppable with him on one side of the ball and me on the other side of the ball. It would be hard for the defense to stop us.”

Jordyn Adams goes viralIn July, SEC Country wrote about Jordyn Adams, a 2018 prospect from Blythewood High School and the son of former South Carolina assistant football coach Deke Adams.

His appearance at Muschamp Camp was rather impressive. But that didn’t get the same attention as the dunk below.

The dunk comes on the heels of a solid 2016 debut on the gridiron, which saw Adams total more than 400 yards of offense as Blythewood’s quarterback in a 27-20 win over Rock Hill.

South Carolina offered Adams as a wide receiver. Baseball coach Chad Holbrook also has an offer on the table. North Carolina, Maryland and Southern Miss have also offered Adams in football.

In July, when SEC Country asked Adams if he was planning to attend the Gamecocks invite only cookout, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete said he was not aware of the event.

On Friday, Blythewood plays at Ridge View High School in one of the state’s best matchups of the week. South Carolina commitment Damani Staley, a 3-star outside linebacker, is the top prospect at Ridge View.

Adams, a 3-star athlete, is the No. 10 ranked prospect in the state of South Carolina’s 2018 class.
