USC commitment DE Shameik Blackshear of Bluffton has seen his senior season come to an end. A source said Tuesday night an MRI of his injured knee revealed a torn ACL. Blackshear will need surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Blackshear was injured in the second game of the season on a non-contact play. He planted his foot and made a cut and his knee twisted. At first, Blackshear thought he had just sprained his knee and would miss about three weeks. ‘

Blackshear had an MRI last week and it took several days before team doctors got the chance to read the MRI. The bad news was passed on to Blackshear and his coaches on Tuesday afternoon.

Blackshear committed to USC in May of 2013 and has never considered another school since then.

He’s the second defensive end commitment for USC and/or Clemson to go down with a torn ACL this season. Clemson lost Clelin Ferrell of Richmond, VA in his season opening game.
