There’s a pretty good chance that South Carolina will beat out Clemson for a football commitment on Thursday.
Dexter Neal, a wide receiver from Stephenson High School, mistakenly tweeted earlier this week that he had committed to South Carolina. He quickly erased the tweet because he wanted to save the official announcement for Stephenson’s scrimmage at 5 p.m. Thursday.
But it was too late in the instantaneous world of Social Media.
Other recruits such as Cedar Grove High School linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams (committed to South Carolina) and Sandy Creek High School’s Demarre Kitt, along with numerous South Carolina fans, quickly congratulated the 2015 recruit on his decision.
“It just took off and everybody started commenting,” Neal told the AJC. “I deleted it because I didn’t want it to get out to the world. I wanted it to be known at the spring game.”
Neal, who said there’s a pretty good chance he officially commit to South Carolina at the scrimmage, talked about the Gamecocks and Clemson:
“I went to South Carolina (for a visit),” he said. “I just liked the program and the way the coaches broke down the academics.
“I look into the depth chart every now and then, and Clemson it was just … the campus was nice. The coaches, they seem pretty cool. Again, the academics were the most important part, and that really made me choose between the two schools.”
Stephenson has three rising seniors committed to D1 schools – RB Dallas Rivers (Vanderbilt), DB Cameron Glenn (Wake Forest), and DB Ronald Peterkin (Georgia State).
Tight end Montez Sweat will announce between Florida and Vanderbilt on Thursday, according to Stephenson assistant Corey Johnson.
