This morning the USC football team went through the first of two practices it has scheduled for today and despite not being scheduled to speak to reporters, Steve Spurrier zipped over in his golf cart to share a few thoughts with a few of the reporters on hand. The BigSpur’s Bill Guntersurmised the impromptu meeting with the media was to brag about the offense, which reportedly had a good morning. The HBC especially liked what he saw from freshman wide receiver Shaq Roland.
You can take a listen to Spurrier’s comments located after the official USC practice report we’ve posted below.
The University of South Carolina football team worked out for two hours in full pads on Tuesday morning. They will hit the practice fields again tonight at 7:30 p.m.
“We had a decent practice today,” said head coach Steve Spurrier after the first workout of the day.
True freshman Shaq Roland continues to impress the Head Ball Coach. “Shaq Roland has a knack for going up and getting it at the last moment. He has the ability to get it at the highest point.”
Coach Spurrier’s offense has a wealth of talent at the tight end position this season. “We will see a lot of two tight ends,” noted Coach Spurrier. “Our (wide) receivers have not gotten much (media) attention, which is justified,” said Coach Spurrier, noting the loss of Carolina record-holder Alshon Jeffery. “But we’re hitting more balls around here than we ever have.”
The Gamecocks are scheduled to scrimmage on Wednesday night at Williams-Brice Stadium, beginning at 7:30 p.m. That scrimmage is the final open practice of the fall. Due to construction work being done on the west side seating area, fans are asked to enter the stadium through gate 18 on the east side and sit in the lower east stands.
