Steve Spurrier still has a lot of Gator in him.
According to Brett McMurphy on Twitter, the current coach at South Carolina was asked about Florida State being picked as the No. 1 team in the country by a preseason magazine.
Spurrier’s response: “They were last year too.”
It was in reference to the Seminoles’ standing as a preseason favorite for the national title in 2011, when they lost at home to top-ranked Oklahoma on Sept. 17 – the first setback in a three-game skid. The ‘Noles finished the year 9-4.
A former Heisman Trophy winner as a quarterback at Florida, Spurrier is most famous for his Fun ‘N Gun offense in Gainesville, where he won the national title after the 1996 season, and his quick wit.
And it’s comments like this that has Spurrier atop this list as the most hated coach in college football history
