Steven Gilmore Jr. breaks down top 4

A little over two months before a commitment is announced, 3-star cornerback Steven Gilmore Jr. named South Carolina as one of four finalists.
Gilmore, the younger brother of former Gamecock cornerback Stephon Gilmore, also listed Georgia, Louisville and North Carolina, one of which he’ll commit to on his birthday, Sept. 17.
“Pretty much where I’m going to feel at home,” he said, when asked what factors in the decision.
“Do I feel like I can be successful at that school?”
Just because his brother had successful career at South Carolina, that doesn’t necessarily mean Steven will follow in his footsteps from South Pointe High School (Rock Hill, S.C.) to Columbia.
Stephon, who recently signed a free-agent contract with the New England Patriots, has offered his younger brother plenty of advice about what to look for in the recruiting process.
“Trust myself and go where I feel is best for myself, what’s going to better me as a player,” Steven said. “That’s pretty much what he tells me.
The younger Gilmore (5-10, 155) detailed his interest in each of the four finalists.
Georgia: “I like the coaches there, coach (Mel) Tucker and all of them. It’s just a great opportunity there, with them being in the SEC. They play on big stages.”
Louisville: “I like Louisville a lot, too. Coach (Lorenzo) Ward, I talk to him a lot, too. it’s a great opportunity there. They’re turning their program around, too. They’ve got a good secondary there.”
North Carolina: “I liked it. It was real nice up there. It’s a great atmosphere. Good opportunity there, too. They’re up and coming. They’ve got a few wrinkles in place, to help get them over the hump.”
South Carolina: “I like atmosphere they’ve got there. It’s an up and coming program. They’re trying to turn it around. The coaches there, they’re fun, too. The opportunity is there for the future, so that’s what I like about them.”
According to the 247Sports composite, he is ranked as the No. 93 cornerback in the Class of 2018.
