Richland Northeast LB TJ Brunson, who is on commitment watch for USC, plans to return to the campus Thursday to watch the Gamecocks’ second spring practice. Brunson said it’s possible he could talk with the coaches then about a commitment. Brunson also attended the Gamecocks’ practice on Tuesday.
Former Kansas safety Isaiah Johnson is considering USC among his transfer possibilities. JucoJunction reported Johnson had received an offer from the Gamecocks and GamecockCentral’s Wes Mitchell reported Wednesday night Johnson had talked with Gamecock recruiter Joe Robinson. Johnson is graduating from Kansas this spring with one season of eligibility remaining which he plans to use as a graduate student. Johnson prepped at Panther Creek High School in Cary, NC before enrolling at Western Carolina in 2011. He played the 2012 season at Iowa Western JC before joining the Jayhawks in 2013. Last season he started all 12 games and was second on the team with 75 tackles.
USC signee Cory Helms, who is transferring from Wake Forest, said his appeal for immediate eligibility is in process and in the hands of USC compliance. Helms said he hopes to hear something before May because if the waiver is approved, he will enroll that month. If not, he will come in with the other recruits in June but will have to sit out the season.
USC offered LB Josh Brown of Charlotte who is a Florida State commitment. He has visits to Alabama and Virginia Tech planned for early April.
