Satellite imagery gives another perspective on the developing situation in Egypt’s Suez Canal, where a mega cargo container ship was turned sideways and became stuck, blocking the busy passageway.

"You had one job."

It really has to suck for the captain or pilot of the ship, but this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  The poor guy has done the dumbest thing of his career, and the whole world is watching.  There are thousands of ships backed up in the Mediterranean, Red and Arabian Seas, and he is costing billions of dollars.  I'm sure it's not funny to him, but I can't stop laughing about it when I see it.  I also keep thinking about the Austin Powers video I posted.

am i the only one who wonders how the canal could be narrow enough for this to happen?

They didn't design it for ships to go through it sideways. Also not sure when it was built. But it was a long time ago when ships were a lot smaller.

I realize that but it seems a forseeable issue that luckily has not happend to this point...I know it widens in several areas to allow ships to pass one another

They’re hopeful that a high tide this Sunday or Monday adds enough rise to allow it to be moved.   Estimating around 18” more from seasonal tidal change
