July 31, 2022
Dorman OT Markee Anderson stands alone now as the only Gamecock target set to announce Sunday afternoon. He plans to do so from a family gathering at his church at 3:00 PM. Anderson made his decision from the Gamecocks, North Carolina, and LSU.
Coach Beamer sent out another commitment alert tweet Saturday afternoon. He did likewise Friday night and that one turned out to be for Sumter DE Montague Rhames. It’s possible this latest alert is connected to the OT Markee Anderson announcement.
WR Carmelo Taylor of Roanoke, VA had planned to announce on Sunday, but Saturday afternoon he tweeted that he was postponing his announcement with no new date set. He has the Gamecocks, Virginia Tech, Penn State, East Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland, Liberty, and Old Dominion as his finalists.
OT Oluwatosin Babalade of Hyattsville, MD was the third Gamecock target set to announce Sunday before changing his plans. He was originally scheduled to visit Maryland over the weekend but made a return visit to the Gamecock cook-out. He confirmed he was on campus Friday night though his trip was first reported by Hale McGranahan and Jeff Ermann of 247Sports. Babalade also has North Carolina and Rutgers on his short list, but his decision is expected to be between the Gamecocks and Terps.
Other non-committed prospects who confirmed Friday night their visits to Columbia include 2024 WR Mazeo Bennett of Greenville, 2024 OT Blake Franks of Greenville, 2024 DT Michai Boireau of Fairburn, GA, 2024 DT Hevin Brown-Shuler, and 2024 LB Sammy Brown of Jefferson, GA. Also in for a visit was 2023 DE/TE Nyckoles Harbor of Washington, DC. Harbor has a short list of the Gamecocks, Michigan, Southern Cal, Miami, Maryland, Georgia, and LSU. Harbor is also one of the nation’s top sprinters and will be heading to a national track event from Columbia.
Camden DT Xzavier McLeod visited the Gamecocks Thursday and Georgia Friday, and possibly into Saturday. He tweeted Saturday that a top three and a commitment are coming in a “few weeks” but no date has been determined.
DT Daevin Hobbs of Concord, NC, who has the Gamecocks in his top six, was offered by Georgia. He also has Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, North Carolina, and Tennessee on his shortlist. Clemson is also recruiting him.
