The Gamecocks officially reached the halfway point of the regular season, and they Gamecocks are looking forward to a little break. Coming off their 24-14 win at Kentucky on Saturday, the Gamecocks will now have two weeks to prepare for their next contest, a home date with Texas A&M on October 22nd. At 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, head coach Shane Beamer feels much better about his team’s position as compared to last year at this same juncture. Adding that the rest comes at the perfect time as the Gamecocks try and heal up for the back half of the schedule.
On Sunday night, Beamer met with the media to recap the victory over the Wildcats and preview fall break and a weekend off for his players.
QUOTES
Beamer: “For the first time, I’m able to get on this call Sunday night and not report any significant injuries from last night. Normal bumps and bruises."
Beamer: Credits his team for its maturity, composure, and poise when things haven't necessarily gone USC's way during games.
Beamer: Asked about comparing last year at the midway point and this year: "I think we're a lot farther along. Certainly, feel better going into the off week this year than last year." Carolina was 3-3 off a loss at Tennessee at this juncture in 2021. Their bye followed the A&M loss.
Beamer: "We came out of that Georgia game believing we could run the ball. We had some confidence coming out of that game both running and throwing the football."
Beamer: "We'll practice Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday." Adds that fall break is coming up at Carolina so the players will have the weekend off.
Beamer: Gladly reports that there are no significant injuries from last night. Normal bumps and bruises after what he says was a very physical game last night.
Beame:r Said that Jaheim Bell played very well last night. Notes the 3rd down reception he made when the game was tied at 7-7 in the 3rd quarter. Also credits Bell for his downfield blocking last night.
Beamer: "Thought we controlled both lines of scrimmage (against UK)."
Beamer: "Great job last night by our guys. The physicality that we played with. The effort we played with was really fun to watch. Knew we would need to play well in all three phases."
