Sunday night recruiting notes

April 02, 2018

Per Hale McGranahan of SECCountry, some other top 2019 USC targets spotted on the sideline prior to the spring game were LB Kalen Deloach of Savannah, DL CJ Clark of New London, NC, DE Curtis Fann of Twin City, GA, OL Keiondre Jones of Hogansville, GA and OL Warren McClendon of Brunswick, GA.  McGranahan also reported 2020 DL Tonka Hemingway of Conway

USC offered 2021 LB Dameon Wilson of Kings Mountain, NC and he visited Saturday for the spring game.  “I was so excited when I was on the phone with Coach Bentley, and my heart was pounding out my chest,  and when he said they wanted to offer me, I almost fainted.”  Wilson also has an offer from Charlotte.

RB Jeremiah Mackey (5-11 175) of Seneca visited USC Saturday for the spring game and hopes to get more interest from the Gamecocks down the road.  “The visit to South Carolina was absolutely mind blowing… seeing so many great athletes, wonderful fans,  it is really unbelievable.   I saw head coach Will Muschamp actually go on the field and have fun with the players and that is what is all about for me,  having a good who is not only a coach but a friend. Today my visit to South Carolina was absolutely splendid,  loved every second.”  Mackey said he talked with running backs coach Bobby Bentley and knows he’ll have to show him something this summer to earn an offer.  “It is a lot of great athletes out here, just like me, who want it, so just come to camp and let them see what I have to offer.”   He’s also hearing from James Madison, Wofford, Furman and Charleston Southern.  Last season Mackey rushed for 1500 yards and 12 touchdowns.

PK Patrick Nations of Walhalla was at USC’s spring game Saturday.  “It was a great day back at USC, always love going down there.  It’s a great place to be at.  They told me that it is coming down to me and another guy, which will be decided at camp on June 16th.”

Some other prospects who publicized a visit to USC Saturday were LB Samuel Brooks of Miami, WR Demetrius Wigfall of Lawrenceville, GA QB/WR Treyvion Houston of Greer, Southside Christian TE Lucas Raber, 2020 OL Seth McLaughlin of Buford, GA, 2020 WR Jalen Coit of Cheraw,  also a basketball prospect, and he was joined on the visit by his teammate 2020 DL Xavier McIver, 2021 DE Kelvin Drummond of Savannah, and 2021 OL Weston Franklin of Jesup, GA.

Houstons said the Gamecocks aren’t showing major interest, yet.  “The interest is cool. They like my athleticism and told me to keep up the good work in the classroom. They also enjoyed my junior season and we will see how things go from here.”  He has an offer from Old Dominion.

LB DeAndre Cornish of Byrnes visited Maryland Saturday. He was at USC on Friday.

2020 DB Buddy Mack of Byrnes visited Maryland on Saturday. He was at USC Friday and also recently visited Wake Forest.
