Steve Spurrier just wrapped up his Sunday teleconference. The HBC shared his day after thoughts on Furman and took a peek ahead to the upcoming matchup at top five Auburn. Spurrier began by updating some injuries, including a key defensive lineman who probably will miss this week’s game with the Tigers. That and more, along with audio from Spurrier, below:
- Spurrier said defensive tackle J.T. Surratt is doubtful to play Saturday against Auburn with a hamstring injury.
- Tight end Busta Anderson is listed as out, but his triceps injury has improved, according to Spurrier.
- Spurrier said Auburn is very good in all areas of the game. “We’re loose. There’s no pressure on us.”
- USC has never picked up a win over Auburn since the Gamecocks joined the SEC.
- Spurrier said there is no advantage playing Auburn because of his past relationship with Ellis Johnson. He called Johnson one of the best.
- Spurrier said they are getting better on defense. “We are no longer at the bottom. …But this week will be a challenge for us.”
- Spurrier said the young quarterbacks didn’t really get a chance Saturday. “They need to play more,” he said.
