Sunday updates (11:55pm)

January 19, 2014

We will be checking on players who made official visits over the weekend and posting those updates here throughout the day. Check back to see what we've learned.

Taylor Stallworth

DL Taylor Stallworth of Mobile, AL has been committed to USC since July and his official visit with the Gamecocks over the weekend all but sealed the deal with him. Stallworth called the strength of his pledge a "10" after the visit. He is scheduled to visit Mississippi State this coming weekend but that trip is in doubt now and is something he will discuss with his parents Monday afternoon. "If I could sign today, I would sign with South Carolina," Stallworth said. "I got to meet some of the players and learned about how it us up there. And I met the coaches and the recruits I'm going to be around when I get there. Coach Spurrier told me to prepare myself to come in and help them win an SEC championship." Stallworth said no coaches are scheduled to visit him this coming week but he's expecting Spurrier to visit the following week.

Derrell Scott

RB Derrell Scott of Havelock, NC made his official visit to Florida over the weekend. Havelock assistant coach Caleb King talked briefly Sunday with Scott. "He said it was nice," King said adding that Scott doesn't say much about anything. King said Florida coach Will Muschamp does not plan to make an in home visit this week. Tennessee coach Butch Jones will be in on Wednesday and USC coach Steve Spurrier makes his in home visit Thursday. Scott will announce his choice January 27th at 3:15 PM.

Poona Ford

Hilton Head DL Poona Ford took his official visit to Texas over the weekend and told the Texas 247.com site that he was very impressed and there was a chance he could make a commitment to the Longhorns soon. He was once committed to new Texas coach Charley Strong when he was at Louisville. Ford is scheduled to visit Oregon this coming weekend and Missouri on the 31st. But he said in the article visits to South Carolina and Mississippi State were also possible.

Damian Prince

OL Damian Prince of Forestville, MD is not talking after wrapping up his official visit to USC. That was his third official visit. He's also been to Florida State and Maryland. He is scheduled to visit Florida January 31st. Penn State is now talking to Prince since James Franklin took over and is trying to get him in for a visit as well.

Chris Lammons

DB Chris Lammons of Plantation, FL made his official visit to USC over the weekend and as expected he did not make a commitment. Lammons has also visited Wisconsin and going to decide between the Gamecocks and Badgers. Wisconsin recruiters were in to see him earlier this week and USC is to be down this coming week. Lammons will wait until Signing Day for his announcement.

Arthur Williams

Shrine Bowl DL Arthur Williams of Fayetteville, NC spoke Sunday morning with USC recruiter Joe Robinson and Robinson plans to meet with Williams Monday morning at his home. Williams is a Florida State commitment but is still interested in the Gamecocks. "He (Robinson) said they've been talking about me all week and they've come up with a plan for me and he wants to talk to me about it," Williams said. "I'm real anxious." Williams did not take an official visit this weekend but is scheduled to visit Florida State next weekend and USC on the 31st. Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is scheduled to make his in home visit Tuesday night. Williams said he's still "pretty firm" with his commitment to Florida State but he's giving USC a chance. His final decision is down to the Seminoles and Gamecocks.

Wesley Green

DB Wesley Green of Lithonia, GA has completed his official visit to USC. He told GamecockCentral he is now favoring USC over Georgia coming off the visit. Green had been considering Ole Miss as a third option but has dropped the Rebels. He will take his official visit to Georgia January 31st and will announce a final choice on Signing Day.

Dexter Wideman

DL Dexter Wideman of Saluda has completed his visit to USC and while the Gamecocks may have improved their position some, Wideman is still committed to Florida State. "Nothing has changed yet. I'm going to wait until after my visit (to Florida State) on the 31st," Wideman said. He added that he enjoyed his visit and liked hanging out with the players and talking with them and the coaches. Wideman said he's not sure when USC coaches will be in to see him this week. As for the strength of his commitment to Florida State, Wideman said, "It's still the same. The visit did move me some in (USC's) direction but I don't want to say. I'm just waiting until after the visit on the 31st."

DJ Smith

DB DJ Smith of Marietta, GA, who is a USC commitment, said he's not doing any more interviews but he confirmed he is still committed to USC and he will take his official visit to Tennessee this coming weekend.
