3 star LB Cayson Collins (6-2 210) of Charlotte committed to North Carolina six weeks ago and is strong on that commitment. He did admit that a call from the Gamecocks could change that. "That would make things more interersting," he said after calling his commitment solid. There is a reason for that. Collins father, Fred Carter, played for the Gamecocks and his parents met while students at USC. His uncle, Williams Perkins, also played at USC. Collins does have an offer from Clemson and has visited the schools three times but was a little disappointed that USC never contacted him. "I was pretty surprising," said Collins. He chose UNC because of its combination of academics and athletics. "I want to study mechanical engineering and they offer that," he said. "I like business too and they offer that as well." He will travel to Columbia for the USC-UNC contest in August and joked, "The family will be a little torn (for that game) but it's always like that." He reiterated a strong commitment to the Tar Heels with only the Gamecocks able to make his reconsider. He named "most ACC schools" as well as Louisville, Kansas State and Illinois as his offers.
