Tar Heels quarterback commitment enjoys camp with Gamecocks

June 24, 2016

James Foster has been committed to North Carolina since November, but he’s still taking a look at several SEC schools, including South Carolina.

The 2018 quarterback from Lanier High School (Montgomery, Ala.) spent two days in Columbia last week, while visiting for the Gamecocks Elite Quarterback Camp.

“It was awesome. I had a great time. Coach (Kurt) Roper helped me out a lot. He was teaching me stuff, technique-wise and things like that,” Foster said.

Most of the first day was spent at the camp. On day two, Foster toured the school and checked out the facilities.

“The weight room and the dorms, just knowing if I do come in, just knowing this is where I’ll be staying. That was a real plus. The dorms, they’re nice,” he said.

Foster “already had a little bond going” with coach Will Muschamp, who spent last season at Auburn. He believes good things are in store for the Gamecocks in 2016.

“I think they’re going to have a successful season, because coach Muschamp is a good coach. Coach Roper is calling the offense, so I feel they’ll have a good chance to compete for the SEC Championship,” Foster said.

Tennessee and Alabama have hosted him for visits this summer. Trips to Georgia, LSU, Florida State and Clemson are also in the works.

South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri and Mississippi State have offered. However, there is no list of favorites behind the Tar Heels.

“If I did, it would be Tennessee and South Carolina,” he said.
