Gavin Schoenwald
TE Gavin Schoenwald of Brentwood, TN has been a two-time visitor to USC, for the Missouri game last season and for a junior day in January. The Gamecocks were one of his first major offers and he has reciprocated with continuing strong interest back at them.
He’s been in touch with recruiter Bobby Bentley and plans another visit to Columbia, possibly this week as spring practice comes to a close.
“We have a really good relationship,” Schoenwald said of Bentley while adding that he’s also communicating regularly with Will Muschamp. “They are both great guys. I’ve done my research and everywhere he’s (Bentley) been he’s been well respected, and I can say that about him as well. And Coach Muschamp, you look at what Florida’s been doing the past few years, those guys are his players. The guys who are winning right now are his players that he recruited. Do I believe in him? Absolutely.”
Schoenwald also has offers from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia, Iowa, Duke and Mississippi State. He is also planning to visit Duke, Ole Miss and Auburn this spring. At this stage he has the Gamecocks at or very near the top of his list.
“Every since my first visit there, me and my dad were really absolutely blown away by everything,” Schoenwald said. “I really try to envision myself spending four years of my life at a place and South Carolina was checking all the boxes. I’d say definitely near if not at the top for sure, and they probably will be towards the end as well.”
Schoenwald said others under strong consideration include Duke, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Auburn. He’d like to make his decision before his senior season. He is not graduating early.
