Class of 2014 tight end Jacob August (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union) comes from a family of South Carolina fans. But at one time the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder, who is originally from Columbia, was going to leave home to play at Penn State.

But when Bill O'Brien left Penn State to take the Houston Texans head coaching job, August reconsidered his decision and chose to stay home and play for the team he grew up pulling for.
"It feels good to finally have the decision," August said. "It's always been a dream of mine to play in front of my friends and family, and now that it's actually there, it feels great."
August, a mid-year enrollee, moves into his dorm this weekend and will start class at Carolina on Monday.
When August didn't receive any recruiting interest out of Cardinal Newman High School last year, he enrolled at Fork Union. The former high school wide receiver has hit a late growth spur, adding four inches throughout his high school career and 50 pounds since his senior season.
August received preferred walk-on offers from Penn State and South Carolina to go along with scholarship offers from Southern Miss, Temple, Bucknell, Dartmouth and Richmond.
"The reason I picked Penn State in the first place was because they were loyal to me and they ran a three-tight end set with O'Brien, so that was a really good thing for me," August said.
South Carolina wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. has handled August's recruitment. August took an unofficial to Carolina last month and chose the Gamecocks last week. He also took officials to Southern Miss and Temple.
August says the Gamecocks plan to use him as an H-back.
