TE Katerian Legrone talks Gamecocks offer

Feb. 16, 2017

First to offer

In Muschamp’s first South Carolina class, the Gamecocks signed 3-star tight end Robert Tucker out of B.E.S.T. Academy in Atlanta, Ga. Earlier this month, Muschamp offered one of Tucker’s former teammates, 2018 tight end Katerian Legrone, whike he was on campus for junior day.

“We were trying on jerseys, taking pictures and a coach came in with a clipboard and said, ‘Coach Muschamp wants you in his office.’ So he checked me off the list,” Legrone said. “Me and my head coach, we went into his office and coach Muschamp was just talking about how he liked my nickname. My nickname’s Fatty, so he liked it.”

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound junior said fellow Atlanta-area prospect, 2018 wide receiver Marquez Ezzard,  was also in the room when Muschamp delivered the news.

“We sat down and started talking about my film and (Muschamp) was like, ‘I want you to know you’ve got an offer from South Carolina.’ After he said that, it was just jaw-dropping,” Legrone said. “I was really happy. I couldn’t believe it, really.”

South Carolina was first to offer. Mercer stepped forward with No. 2 on Tuesday.

“(Muschamp) said he liked my versatility, how I can play tight end and receiver and how I can use my athleticism, playing multiple positions, from an offensive standpoint, because I can play tight end or receiver,” Legrone said.

The interest is mutual.

“I really like the campus and the school. Nice school, beautiful campus. A lot of cool players, really cool. They make you comfortable on your visit,” Legrone said.

South Carolina has the edge

Three-star linebacker Channing Tindall, who recently added offers from Auburn and Georgia, told Phil Kornblut that he was particularly excited about the Dawgs offer.

“I was really excited because it was one of the schools I had an interest in,” Tindall said. “My dad is from Georgia. My dad and little brother are huge Georgia fans so there is always a rivalry in our house because my mom, aunt and uncle graduated from South Carolina and are huge Gamecock fans.”

Next weekend, South Carolina will host Tindall for junior day. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect attends nearby Spring Valley High School.

“I am building really good relationship with the coaches,” he said. “South Carolina is making me feel like I am a priority the most right now, so they have the edge.

“I am building a great relationship with (linebackers) coach (Coleman) Hutzler and coach Muschamp.”

According to Rivals, Tindall is the No. 32-ranked outside linebacker in the class of 2018.

Offers out

The South Carolina coaches sent out multiple offers throughout the day Tuesday.
