October 08, 2017
Tennessee commitment Dorian Gerald was among the official and unofficial visitors at South Carolina on Saturday for the 48-22 win over Arkansas.
With College of the Canyons (Calif.) on a bye week, the 3-star defensive end returned to Columbia as an unofficial guest, while visiting his home in Florence, S.C.
“It’s always great to be home. When I went to South Carolina, it was amazing,” Gerald said. “It really gave me an insight on how it is to play for the University of South Carolina. … I got first-class treatment. It was really nice. It really did change my thoughts about USC.”
Gerald, who’s been committed to the Vols since July, spoke with all of the coaches on Saturday, including Will Muschamp.
“Nothing has changed,” Gerald said of his conversation with the head coach. “I’m still one of their real high priorities for them. He said I could come in and make plays and that’s what they want me to do still.”
His game day experience at Williams-Brice Stadium was top-notch.
“It blew my mind. … It changed my outlook on the University of South Carolina,” Gerald said. “You always hear about Williams-Brice being a loud stadium. I didn’t realize it was that loud. The fan support is amazing. It’s just crazy.
“I haven’t been to a lot of games growing up, but I’m sure there aren’t many that are going to top that one. It was a very loud environment. It’s a football environment. That’s what you want to be in.”
Gerald will be back for his official visit the weekend of the Wofford game. The official visit to Tennessee is on for the following weekend. He’s in the midst of scheduling officials to Florida and Louisville.
Through four games this season, Gerald has 23 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.
