The latest on 4-star DE Stephon Wynn Jr.

Feb. 26, 2017

Four-star defensive end Stephon Wynn Jr. was one of several prospects from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to attend the Under Armour Camp on Sunday in Orlando.

The No. 5-ranked strong-side defensive end in the class of 2018 spoke with SEC Country reporter Ben Wolk to share the latest in his recruitment.

“Currently, I’m still getting offers, but time is winding down,” Wynn said. “I’ll make the decision sometime before summer is over with, but I still want to take my official visits.

“If I can’t take my official visits after I make my decision, then I’ll take my official visits, then make my decision.”

Wynn, who released a top 8 last month, named a handful of schools when asked which currently stand out.

“Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, those are just some of the schools that are some of my top considerations,” he said.

Though Wynn said he has no leader, it’s widely believed that he will end up at Clemson, where his father played. Plus, Wynn is originally from T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, S.C., which is a short drive from the Clemson campus.

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson are in regular contact. Linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler was Wynn’s area recruiter before he left for IMG.

“I love South Carolina. I love coach Muschamp. I love coach Thompson. I believe they’re going to turn it around,” Wynn said. “I’m just waiting to see – I mean, I know they’re making progress. They’re going to be back on top soon.”

The Gamecocks hosted Wynn twice last season, first for the home opener and again for the Sunday afternoon showdown against Georgia
