The latest on 5-star athlete Quavaris Crouch

MINT HILL, N.C. — Five-star athlete Quavaris Crouch is still debating which position he wants to play at the college level and beyond.
The 6-foot-2, 238-pound prospect from Harding University High School (Charlotte, N.C.) first made a name for himself as a running back, but he’s seriously considering a future on the defensive side of the ball.
In fact, that’s the direction he’s leaning, though it’s not “all the way there yet.” That choice, Crouch told Dawg Nation’s Jeff Sentell, will be made with an eye on the NFL.
“Just want to make enough money to take care of my family,” Crouch said. “Running back, you can do that, honestly, you can do that. … It’s longevity. You play longer [at linebacker]. I feel like it would put me in a position to where I could play longer and really just take care of my family.”
Then, of course, there’s the decision about which college he’ll attend. Crouch, who’s ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 17 overall prospect in the Class of 2019, has a strong relationship with South Carolina running backs coach Bobby Bentley.
“I like South Carolina, not too far from home,” Crouch said.
The Gamecocks offered when he was a freshman.
“I’ve got a good relationship with Coach [Will] Muschamp. He’s always kept it real with me,” Crouch said.
A return trip to Columbia is in the works, though nothing has been set in stone.
“They wanted me to come down there and I just didn’t have time to,” Crouch said. “I wanted to go further places, because I know I can get to South Carolina – it’s an hour and 30 [minutes] away from me. I’m probably going to get down there soon.”
