Ford and Chevy have come out with crate e-motors to replace internal combustion engines in older cars.

"For now, there are no official specifications available, but looking at the photos showing the engine compartment, the eLcamino EV Restomod appears to feature the same electric powertrain GM showcased at SEMA last year with the 1977 K5 Blazer-E EV restomod.

The concept featured a Chevrolet Bolt EV electric motor delivering 200 hp and 266 lb-ft (360) of torque, powered by a 400-volt Bolt EV battery pack with 60 kilowatt-hours of usable energy.

That show car also featured a Chevrolet Performance electronically controlled four-speed automatic and we suspect something similar is found in the eLcamino EV Restomod."

GM Defense has a $214-million contract with the US Army to build 639 Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISVs), and all of them are diesel-powered. However, the company has created a one-off ISV which it calls the All Electric Concept Vehicle and it could preview the way forward for light military vehicles.

The ISV is mechanically related to the Chevrolet Colorado pickup, using around 90 percent off-the-shelf components, including its 2.8-liter Duramax diesel that is strong, reliable and relatively fuel-efficient.

Ford's crate e-motor is derived from its Mach E offering.

"Going by the name F-100 Eluminator Concept, the truck showcases the benefits of electric propulsion using a 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition battery electric powertrain and twin front and rear electric traction motors.

The powertrain produces a combined 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft (859 Nm) of torque in the F-100 EV conversion, including the Eluminator electric crate motor based on the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition’s traction motor. The e-crate motor is rated at 281 horsepower and 317 lb-ft (429 Nm) of torque.

Street-legal in all 50 states, the electric crate motor has Part No. M-9000-MACH-E and is now available to purchase online through Ford Performance Parts or at authorized Ford parts warehouse dealers for $3,900. It targets builders looking for a transverse-oriented powertrain, and can therefore electrify a range of vehicles from modern to vintage cars, trucks and SUVs."
