Start off with makes it to easy to move on. If a HC or a position coach goes or if a player just does not want to be here because of an ice cream machine stop working. To me it has not been what I felt it could do here anyway. I thought it would help bring talent in. Lost more than have entered. I feel they should expand the recruiting glasses up to 35. allowing for players walking out any time would help keep teams like South Carolina fill holes better. Thoughts?

I don't think we're going to turn the corner until Shane gets enough of his recruits in here to anchor the team on both sides of the ball.

Whether they come from the portal or not is not really as important as how he and his staff evaluate them.

The Portal needs an cut off date and that being only once an year a player could enter, maybe at the end of the year or the spring, but it's not going to help the schools like South Carolina that much.   I remember when Alabama could offer  any amount of scholarships the wanted too.

Bear Bryant would off them an scholarship and put them on the bench just so other schools could not get them , I believe the answer is to reduce the amount of players on scholarship again.   Maybe the answer is to reduce it to 65 total players so all the other schools have an chance, That's the reason they changed it back in the 70's because of the Bama , Notre Dame, and etc.

The portal has helped an little but just like an couple we have now what have they really done they have 3 or 4 that is not even playing or can't at this level.

Agree but the ones that have come in are from the ones that left and had more talent through.

I think overall it's a good thing. No reason to force a player to stay on a team when their heart is not in it. If the coach changes, or they are just not getting the playing time they thought they would, let them transfer, rather then keeping a disgruntled player on a team. Bring in someone that wants to be here. Agree with The Bear, should be only certain times of the year the portal is open.

Covid is wreaking havoc with high school football schedules right now.

I could see the portal going on for another year until things settle down in the real world.

I'm ok with it.  Some schools are better at navigating it than others.  Shane needs to continue to build the team through improved recruiting, evaluation, and player development and fill the gaps with juco's and the portal transfers.    If we have players that want to leave, not sure I want to keep them around.

Would like to see the the 28 to bump up to 35. NCAA for this year have in the works where you can add 7 to the 35. Not sure if they have passed it yet.
