SEC Associate Commissioner Herb Vincent declined to comment on the comments USC Athletic Director Ray Tanner made in response to ESPN’s Paul Finebaum’s comments about Gamecock defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Tanner was not happy that Finebaum called Clowney “the biggest joke in college football” and made that very clear in an interview with The State newspaper over the weekend. Tanner went so far as to suggest some of the other ADs in the SEC might not take too kindly with someone representing SEC Network trashing league players. “My understanding is he will be a part of the network going forward, and there are 13 other ADs in the SEC, and I am not so sure they feel much differently than I feel about the situation,” Tanner told The State.
So what does this all mean? Well, not much. At least not now. Here is what Vincent said about it in an email to SportsTalk:

We reqested an interview with Tanner and he declined through the USC SID who indicated Tanner had said all he wanted to say on the matter at this time. The commissioner is aware of Paul Finebaum’s comments as well as Ray Tanner’s concerns, but we are not going to comment at this time. The SEC Network has not launched yet, so any discussion about comments by on-air talent would be premature.
