The dead period for Division 1 football coaches ends Wednesday so the recruiters will be back on the road. And this weekend marks the first major weekend for official visits in January. While it will be quiet at USC with no official visits currently scheduled for the weekend, Clemson will have some activity.
Much of the Tigers’ 2015 class enrolled in school earlier this month, so those commitments who have not enrolled nor taken an official visit will be in this weekend.
That group is expected to include DE Austin Bryant, DE Clelin Ferrell, DE Lasamuel Davis, WR Deon Cain, TE Garrett Williams, DB Tanner Muse and DB Amir Trapp.
They’ll be joined by two major uncommitted targets in DB Mark Fields Jr. of Cornelius, NC and ATH Denzel Johnson of AC Flora.
Fields is the former USC commitment who is now looking at Clemson, Texas and LSU. He is scheduled to visit Texas January 23rd and LSU on the 30th. Johnson has visited Towson and is scheduled to visit Georgia Southern and NC State the last two weekends of the month.
While USC has no official visits scheduled for this weekend at this point, several prospects on its board are scheduled to be taking visits this weekend:
DB Maurice Smitherman to Texas Tech
OL Cory Helms to Texas A&M
DB Antoine Wilder (commitment) to Tennessee State
DB Treston Decoud to Oregon State
DB Damon Arnette (commitment) to Michigan
DE Arden Key to LSU
DE Quandeski Whitlow (commitment) to Louisville
DB Toure Boyd to Georgia State
DB Jeremiah Dinson to Florida
OL Christian Pellage (commitment) to Florida
Some other players around the state also are scheduled for official visits this weekend:
LB Hassan Belton of Blythewood to Tennessee State
WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside of Dorman to Stanford
WR Tavin Richardson of Byrnes to Louisville
OL Stephen Haralambis of Chapin to Charleston Southern
